Five of the Best: Paul Scholes goals

After once again retiring, Paul Scholes will sadly not be amongst the Manchester United squad for next season as the team looks to secure success both at home and abroad. The ginger prince, part of the famous class of 92', gave 20 years of service to the United first-team and scored many memorable goals for the club. Here are five of the best Paul Scholes strikes for Manchester United.

5. vs Panathanaikos

Paul Scholes was known for his trademark thunderous strikes from distance, but this first goal highlights the footballing skill that made Scholes a genius on the pitch. In the Champions League against Panathanaikos, Scholes capped a wonderful United passing move by running onto a clever flick and producing a beautifully weighted chip over the goalkeeper.

4. Vs. Bradford

One of the most iconic goals of Paul Scholes' career was produced through a clever set-piece that involved another United legend, David Beckham. Beckham provided the deep cross from a corner, which Scholes met on the edge of the box with a stunning volley through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner.

3. Vs Middlesbrough

This was another goal that highlighted Scholes' fantastic ball striking ability. Receiving the cutback 30 yards from goal, the United midfielder unleashed a great strike into the top corner of the Middlesbrough net.

2. Vs Barcelona

This was arguably the most important goal that Scholes scored in his 20 year Manchester United career. After a 0-0 draw with Barcelona in the Nou Camp, United were looking for a piece of magic to give them the advantage over the Spanish side at Old Trafford. Step forward Paul Scholes, who stuck with a wonderful long-range effort which sent United into the final where they would overcome Chelsea to be crowned Champions of Europe.

1. Vs Aston Villa

Scholes became one of the most technically gifted players of his generation and this goal highlights that immense talent. After a corner into the Villa penalty area was cleared, the ball dropped onto the swinging right foot of Scholes, who smashed in a volley via the crossbar.
