Five of the best: Robin Van Persie Manchester United Goals

After a stunning start to his Manchester United career, Dutchman Robin Van Persie already possesses a long highlight reel of goals. This list features a goal at Stamford Bridge, a winning penalty at Anfield and a last-minute winner in the Manchester Derby. So, looking back on RVP's 17 goals this season, which five stand out as the best?

5. Vs Fulham (H) 25th August 2012

On his first start for the Red Devils, the spotlight was firmly placed on the Dutch striker and he didn't disappoint. His first shot on goal for United, resulted in a beautifully taken half-volley after a driven cross from the left by Patrice Evra.
4. Vs Southampton (A) 2nd September 2012

Van Persie produced a stunning hat-trick to allow United to take all three points against newly promoted Southampton. However, it was Van Persie's first goal of the day which stood out when he took a drifted Valencia cross on his chest and buried the ball into the far corner of the net.

3. Vs West Ham (A) 5th January 2013

In the third round of the F.A. Cup, United looked down and firmly out of the cup before Ryan Giggs and Van Persie produced three pieces of magic. The first was the 50-yard pass, taken on the bounce by Veteran Giggs, the second a world-class touch by the Dutchman and finally a devastating finish that kept United in the hat for the next round.

2. Vs Liverpool (A) 23 September 2012

This may not be the best goal Van Persie will ever score, infact it was a penalty. However, this goal places number 2 on the list because of the pure pressure and importance of the moment. After missing an extremely poor penalty at Southampton, Van Persie stepped up a week later, with enormous pressure on his shoulders to bury a penalty that gave United their first win at Anfield in 5 seasons.

1. Vs Man City (A) 09th Decemeber 2012

The single biggest goal of the season so far. Manchester City are emerging as the team that will run United closest in the the title race and therefore, this last minute free-kick at the Eithad, could be the main difference between the two clubs when it the title is won in May. After a spirited comeback from City, the responsibility of a last minute freekick lay with Van Persie and, via a Samir Nasri deflection, the rest is history ....
